Progress update

I wanted to provide an update on my progress. Since switching from Sertraline to Mirtazapine, I’ve been experiencing brain zaps (electric shock sensations). It’s tough to pinpoint the exact cause for a few reasons:

  1. I stopped Sertraline cold turkey and switched directly to Mirtazapine. Brain zaps are a known withdrawal symptom of Sertraline.
  2. Although I’ve been taking Mirtazapine at low doses for sleep, the recent increase in dosage could also be contributing to the brain zaps. However, I think this is less likely since my body is fairly accustomed to it, and the increase from 15mg to 30mg isn’t too drastic.
  3. I’m on day 9 of sobriety, so some of these symptoms might also be related to general withdrawal. That said, I’m pleased to report that my cravings have completely disappeared—especially considering it’s only day 9!

Unfortunately, my sleep has been poor. I keep waking up early and struggling to fall back asleep, leaving me feeling unrefreshed. I do have some emergency medication (zopiclone) prescribed by my consultant psychiatrist to assist with sleep if it becomes a major issue, so I might take one tonight.

On the positive side, my anxiety has significantly improved. I can now walk through large groups of people without feeling overwhelmed.

Now, I’m off for my morning walk.
