Earlier this year, I began taking an antipsychotic medication called Quetiapine (also known by its brand name Seroquel) to help manage a combination of mood swings, severe anxiety, and sleep issues. While it’s commonly prescribed for bipolar disorder and other mood-related conditions, it’s also used off-label for various anxiety disorders — and there’s growing research supporting its effectiveness in these cases.
In my own recovery journey, Quetiapine has played an important role. It’s been particularly helpful in improving my sleep, calming intense anxiety, and reducing unusual or delusional thoughts and sensations — which can sometimes occur in the aftermath of drug-induced psychosis.
Now, I’m beginning the process of gradually reducing my dosage. This is something that needs to be done with great care, ideally under medical supervision. Withdrawing from antipsychotics can bring its own set of challenges, including potential withdrawal symptoms that shouldn’t be underestimated.
This stage of my journey is all about balance, caution, and self-awareness — and I hope sharing it helps others feel less alone if they’re on a similar path.
